Ryan Gegg, DO
Dr. Ryan Gegg joined ENT South in the summer of 2017. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in psychology and an interest in going further with a career in medicine.
"After graduating I was an orthopedic sales rep for about six months," says Dr. Gegg. "I ended up spending a lot of time in the operating room around the surgeons. They were great with me – they had me over their shoulder all the time showing me a lot of aspects of medicine, treating me more like a med student. The experience really intrigued me – and through it I discovered my calling."
After interviewing at colleges across the country, Dr. Gegg chose the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of the most prestigious in the nation. "My best friend's dad is an osteopath – he was a great mentor to me through the process," says Dr. Gegg. "But also, I was glad to be able to be closer to home during that time."
Dr. Gegg later performed his residency as an ENT-otolaryngologist in the St. Johns Providence Health System of hospitals in Michigan. “During that time, I worked with patients to treat all types of ear, nose and throat disorders," says Dr. Gegg. "I’m looking forward to seeing people from all walks of life, babies to senior adults, to treat the same issues here in the Wiregrass.”
After completing his residency, Dr. Gegg hoped to join a private practice – an opportunity he found through ENT South. "Hospital systems like the one I'm coming from have so many sub-specialists in the ENT field. I liked that here at ENT South I'll have a broader scope to treat patients. It's more work, but it's also more of an opportunity to get to know a wide range of patients."
“Dr. Gegg brings a fresh perspective and a joy for helping people," says Dr. Nunnally. "He is friendly and compassionate, a perfect fit for the 'patient first' mentality we have at ENT South."
Dr. Gegg and his wife, Courtney, are excited to join the Wiregrass community. "Everyone here in Dothan was really friendly during our visits here," says Dr. Gegg. "It's a bit different than up north, where hospitals can be a cold environment. Everyone around here was very inviting with a can-do attitude. Plus, I'm excited about trying some of the local restaurants – I'm a big barbecue fan!"
